Welcome! We are the Toronto Triggerfish Water Polo Club, an active group of LGBTQ+ and allied people who play the tough and rewarding sport of water polo in downtown Toronto, Ontario. We welcome all individuals over the age of 18 regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and water polo skill or prior experience.

Statement to Our Toronto Triggerfish Community - January 26, 2025
To Our Toronto Triggerfish Community,
In light of the troubling events and decisions in the United States and elsewhere that undermine the rights and dignity of trans and nonbinary people, as well as the broader LGBTQ+ community, we want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to inclusivity, respect, and solidarity.
The Toronto Triggerfish was founded as a safe and empowering space for queer athletes, and we remain steadfast in our dedication to that mission. We celebrate the diverse identities within our team, and we know that our strength lies in our unity.
While policies like USA Water Polo's enforcement of a binary gender choice for insurance may not directly impact us, they remind us of the challenges many of our community members face worldwide. Here in Canada, under the umbrella of Water Polo Canada, we are fortunate to be covered without such restrictions, even during international competitions. However, this privilege deepens our responsibility to stand with those who are affected, and to amplify our collective voice for justice and equality.
To our trans and nonbinary teammates: you are valued, seen, and celebrated here. To all our LGBTQ+ members and allies: let this moment inspire us to stay vigilant and support one another. We are more than a team; we are a family united by our shared values and our love of this sport.
Let us continue to model the inclusive future we want to see in the world. Whether in the pool, in our communities, or on the global stage, we are committed to fostering a space where everyone can thrive as their authentic selves.
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, we encourage you to reach out to our executive members. Our WTN representative, Rachelle (wtn@triggerfishwaterpolo.ca) and our DEI coordinator, Joshua (diversity@triggerfishwaterpolo.ca) are here to support you and ensure your voice is heard.
Together, as Triggerfish, we will keep swimming upstream against adversity and toward a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.
